Stomach surgery for (morbid) obesity - also known as bariatric surgery - is effective but also drastic. A stomach operation will only be considered in very overweight and when all other ways to lose weight fail. Then there is a bariatric surgery is not for everyone.

Who is a stomach operation suitable?

Stomach surgery (bariatric surgery) is suitable for people between 18 and 65 years with a BMI of 40 or higher. You can also qualify for a stomach operation if you have a BMI of 35 or higher and you have many additional health problems. Other conditions for a stomach operation are:

You've already made several serious attempts to come off with a modified diet (diet) and increased exercise of your overweight.
You are aware of the impact on your life and you're willing to change final and complete your life.
You are aware of the fact that bariatric surgery (with the exception of the gastric band) can not be reversed.
You are aware that you have to keep under control the rest of your life.
